The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, develop, and direct the provision of resident care services, oversee and supervise resident care staff in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. The Director of Nursing has the responsibility and authority to implement facility policies and procedures listed in duties and responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions Duties and Responsibilities
Resident Care/Management Functions
Plan, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the resident care services department, as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with applicable rules, regulations, and guidelines.

Develop, maintain, update and communicate facility and state specific written policies and procedures that govern the daily functions of the resident care services department.

Determine appropriateness of resident admission and level of service needed by ensuring that pre-admission assessment is performed. The Director of Resident Care Services may be required to complete the pre-admission assessment, which may include visits to an area hospital, home or other facility

Complete admission procedures with resident and family including, care assessment, service plan and agreement, completed physician's orders, assessment for resident vulnerability and safety, and review of bill of rights.

Ensure that resident needs and service plan is completed within 14 days after admission.

Ensure resident needs and service plan is reviewed and updated on a quarterly basis or as needed to address any change of condition or change to resident needs or goals.

Communicate and coordinate service schedules with other departments to ensure the continuity of the resident's total regimen of care.

Determine standards of practice for resident care, infection control, and OSHA regulations.

Ensure that direct care is provided by appropriately trained personnel.

Monitors the activities of Resident Care Assistants during the shift and directs staff as needed. Ensure that all Resident Care Services staff comply with the written policies and procedures including following safety protocols and procedures.

Perform monitoring of resident's health status through direct observation and supervision of staff. Make daily rounds of the resident care services department. Confer with the Executive Director if resident will require a different level of care. Notify the resident's family and or physician regarding any changes in condition as appropriate.

Proactively respond to residents and/or family members' questions and concerns.

Job Requirements

Must have, as a minimum, 3 years of experience in nursing. Prefer experience in home care, assisted living or similar experience, providing direct care or overseeing the care of elderly or disabled individuals

Must have experience in supervision and principles, practice of teaching, etc.

Computer proficiency

Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN) and/or Registered Nurse in this state.
